Does anyone have a PE tank water softener - hot side only?? I live on base and was supposed to have a regular water softener installed today, but when the Culligan guy got to my house he said that it wouldn't fit. So he suggested a pe tank and said it would only soften the hot water only. Its gonna cost around 50 dollars a month so before I agree to a contract I want to know if its worth the money to only be able to soften the hot water. 

My daughter had very bad skin issues when she was little and we got a prescription from the doctor to get a water softener placed in our house on base. Even with the prescription, Soaring Heights wouldn't pay for the softener and were not super willing to help with the situation. We had the same problem with the softener not fitting in our house and the only one that would fit was the one that would heat the hot water only. The guy that came out to measure said that you would have to make the water pretty hot to have it soften well and for instance, your clothes will not have softened water when you wash them because most people wash their clothes in cold water, etc. My husband and I decided it was not worth the money and would not help our daughter if only our hot water was going to be softened. I hope this helps.
