Hello We will be moving to holloman this summer and i have a teenager who will be starting high school there. What is the best high school there? I have heard some horrible things about alamagordo high school and i am hoping it is not all true. Help!

could you tell me what exactly is wrong with it? Just curious what is so bad about it. 

let's put it this way, I saw more high school teen mom's at my OB appointments then married older mom's. 

I know there is a lot of problems with drugs and gangs. I graduated in 2005 and it was pretty bad then. I'm honestly not too sure I just know what I have been told by my sister she is a senior or was a senior until last week when she dropped out! 

are there any private or charter schools in the area? Any other towns near by maybe? 

Yes, there are a couple of private schools that do or will do K-12. Legacy Christian School and Imago Dei Academy. The second does K-9 right now but its website say it will add a grade a year until it reaches the 12th. Also, Tularosa and Cloudcroft have their own school districts and high schools. Cloudcroft's has consistently rated high.

There is cloudcroft high school its about 45 minute drive or so. Also Tularosa High school about 30 minute drive. It depends on if you live on base or off base. I would not recommend Tularosa high school though. CLoudcroft high school is great according to friends I have but if you drive everyday it will be hard when the roads are closed due to snow! 

Where is legacy located I have never heard of it? That is great to know though because my daughter will be starting kindergarten I thought all private schools closed. At least in this area. Thanks for that info! Sorry kk I was not aware of those.

The teen pregnancy rate here is high but Im proud these young woman are choosing life! I did! 

They used to be know as Comminity Christian School. They are Christian but are not church affiliated. She said thy are overseen by several pastors in the area so are truly a community christian school.

Thank you you girls have been extremely helpful and i am a little more at ease with options. We currently live in germany so he goes to school on base and it is almost like a private school. Thank you again i am looking forward to the warm weather and hopefully a hometown feel. 

It doesn't sound like you are, but if you were German, he could go to the Deutsche Schule because the German military group has their own school here. You'll find when you get here that they have a lot of their own everything, kind of like our military groups who work within foreign bases, similar to what it sounds like he's doing now.

no i am not german that would be an easy fix but i will figure something out for him. He is a good kid but has never been put in a mix quite like this we are originally from a small town in idaho. 

We moved here from Germany and I was nervous about my boys going to school in town. they are not in high school but I have made many friends who have bothe boys and girls in High School here in town and it is all in how you raise your kids. If you have a good relationship and talk openly then you should be fine. Don't worry too much. He sounds like a good kid. This high school is like any other they all have clicks. 

Imagio Dei Academy I have heard very good reports about them. Some kids do well in High School & some don't. My son likes the High School. My daughter doesn't and we are thinking of putting her in a private school next year.
