Hi, I am fairly new the area and I am looking to try out some of the local restaurants. Does anyone have suggestions on where to go for good Mexican, Chinese, Italian, American, Seafood, Pizza and Burgers? Thanks

For Mexican food, I always make the trip to Tularosa to Casa de Suenos.

Mexican: Casa De Suenos Chinese: Bamboo Garden Pizza: Gi Gi's (buffet) Burgers: Mom's by Walmart These are my favorites, I love food way to much.

Hi-D-Ho for burgers if you have hungry men-their Tiger Burger is awesome!

If you don't want to go to a buffet, Taiwan Kitchen is very good. It looks like a little hole-in-the-wall, but brave it anyway because it's worth it. Also, if you want a little more of an outing with scenery to boot, make the drive to Ruidoso to The Great Wall of China restaurant. It is by far the best chinese in the area, and also cooked to order. They are a bit more expensive than others in the area, but they are worth it. This might be a good birthday or anniversary treat. But many times when I am in Ruidoso anyway (our doctors are up there), I will go there just to get eggrolls to take home. You have to ask for the big dinner eggrolls to get the ones I'm talking about. They are a meal in themselves because they are full of meat and like none you can get anywhere around here. Just add some eggdrop or wonton soup and you'll be very full. Also, from their website you can print a 10% coupon for your first visit. http://great-wall-restaurant.com/

I like Memories for great steaks, soups & sandwhiches, Peppers has all kinds of good things on thir menu, for mexican I like Si Senore.

You might also be surprised at the good food you can find in the White Sands Mall food court. My favorite is Chinex. I always take home but there is a table seating area that many people use and some of the food vendors have their own dining areas.

I highly highly highly recommend making the trip to Cloudcroft and going to Big Daddy's Diner for burgers. It is a hole-in-the-wall but their burgers are to die for. My husband and I like Bamboo Garden for Chinese. Inn of the Mountain Gods used to have a seafood buffet on Wednesday nights. My husband and I haven't been there for that (it is pricey) but they are supposed to have an elaborate spread of seafood. For steaks, there is a place in Ruidoso that I can't remember the name of right now- it sits back in off of the main drag and is pricey, but has great steaks. Also, if you head towards El Paso on Hwy 54, Edge of Texas sits off to the left right before you reach civilization again (El Paso) and has FABULOUS steaks but is also slightly pricey. Hope this helps!

My Mothers Place and Stella Vita are good choices for high quality cuisine and fine dining experience.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Short Momma, I'm with you, I love food too. Whenever I talk to my mom on the phone, after we ask how the family is doing we ask what each other ate, will eat or want to eat. I'm excited to have some new places to try out.

Stella Vita on New York Ave is my favorite restaurant here in town! Their crab cake appetizer is to die for but so is everything they serve!

Isabel --- 212 days ago -

I love Lupes its great food! Stella Vita I was not crazy about. It was a little bit of food for a big price. And our server was rude to my kiddos. I really enjoy Memories I always have great customer service and the baked potato soup is to die for. Yummy. I also love eddies burritos.

Some of the places here aren't bad, provided you maybe only eat there around lunch time. Casa Du Suenos isn't bad for lunch buffet. Much better than I remember years ago, and the place has a nice atmosphere. While Tia Lupes had very warm friendly people, I ate there once, and didn;t at all care for their food. Marias, a no go, Si Senor inconsistent, sometimes fair, sometimes not so good. IMO there's really not one outstanding mecican place in the whole county. Nellies in Cruces puts all to shame in Alamo. Nellies is IMO authentic, and very well prepared New Mexican cuisine. Chinese is a real hit&miss in this town, Wok Inn, like others I found started out 1/2 way decent, and gradually progressed to inedible, cold nasty food. Bamboo Garden, i ate there once, never again. Those expensive midget egg rolls were a clue this was not going to be a good dining experience. I actually prefer the frozen egg rolls out of wally world's freezer. Only 1/2 way decent chinese food I've had in this state in 6-1/2 years, was up in Farmington NM. Great Wall, is another that I thought really stunk. Their Sushi... the fish was fresh, and edible, but the sushi rice is so doped up with vinegar, and sugar, that's all you tatse. As for sushi, the best I ever had while in this state, was Osaka in Santa Fe. Outstanding, and sushi to die for! Peppers, again, they've become inconsistent IMO, sometimes decent, and others not so good. Portions are smaller, and prices steadily climb. Sadly, alamo doesn't have one place that I've gone to, which are not worth a 2 star rating. Applebees, and Golden Corral are definitely two off my list permanently. I'll admit there's a few I have not dined at, like Stella Vita, Memories, My Mother's Place, Chili's, Desert Run. Like Dorothy in Wizard of Oz would say "There's no place like Home".

The fast food joints in town have all gotten very poor as of late. KFC used to be pretty decent when they used to have the thursday buffet. Now, the place looks like they're virtually out of business, I hardly ever see anyone patronize them anymore. Church's Chicken, while less expensive than KFC is akin to eating dried out buzzard, just horrid! Burger King, is a filthy pig sty. The new McDonalds started out IMO very good. Burgers were hot, fresh, juicy, tasty, freshly prepared. Within a 2-3 week period, seems they then reverted back to like they always were before, dry, 1/2 cold, tasteless, like the food was made 4 hours earlier. They've really again gotten bad IMO. Wendy's not all that good, Pizza...there is no good Pizza in Alamogordo, period. Taco Bell is about then only place that seems to have some consitency in food freshness, and tatse-flavor. That really isn;t saying much, is it? Sorry, that perhaps some might see my posts as uninspiring. I'm only trying to tell it like it truthfully is here in alamogordo.
